I really hope not. All it does is lag up a game horribly. I told my friend to turn his off and first thing he said was it played better off. If people want to record -- you go out and buy a DVR. They are becoming easily purchasable, and available. Even GameStop sells them now. |

Peer-to-peer connection is always dependant upon the connections of every in the room. Is his the best? No. He lives in America. Compared to them we're sorely lacking behind. As for his connection inside the states? It's average. The game itself needs servers, and not a peer-to-peer connection. |

I'm not too sure at the moment. I'm betting it's being run on servers, but it's the build and resource managment that is causing the lag and latency. Call of Duty funny enough on PC is run on servers. Just not for the home entertainment consoles. Battlefield3 though is run the same way effectively. Except you can purchase your own servers thanks to ElectronicArts.
The only games to really do the whole peer-to-peer connection, and stil manage proper servers has to be both Warhawk and SOCOM.
Match making is inferior to server selection. That is just my opinion though. I find server selection to be superior. |

Well you can have "match making", and still run a game on full servers. I just find "server selection" to be informal in terms of knowing what is going on. Again Warhawk is a perfect example. Still so far so good. Dust has server selection, but it's bare at the moment. Not really surprising. We're in a [beta] phase. I would certainly like to see more information about the server though before hand. Having the region is a nice touch though. |

Probably general information.
- Minimum/Maximum Rank Requirements
- Map
- Game Mode
- Score & Score limit
- Maximum Amount of Players
- How many players are currently within
- Region
- Mic availability
- Ping
- Whether or not it is UCRR (User Created Ranked Room) or ORR (Official Ranked Room)
- Time limit & Time left in match
- Name of server
Usually though for ORR's most developers choose to color them a certain color, or seperate them entirely, and/or both. I could add more, but it is dependant. If it comes to UCRR's then you could add in some minor other details. |

UCRR is short for -- "User Created Ranked Room" ORR is short for -- "Official Ranked Room"
The general differences are minor. With exceptions that ping can vary a bit more, and usually the one who created the room has more control. He can usually choose to kick/ban players (if there is no voting system), and can tweek certain things. Game modes, players, rank requirements. Weapons available, or classes. Sometimes you can find great UCRR's, but sometimes you join and find out you joined some random arse-hat's room. Where he'll kick/ban, or clan stack. Things can go awry quickly at times. However if you find a good person running a fair UCRR then the game is just great, and fun. ORR's usually are not monitored, but at the same time are standardized, and harder for players to muniplulate. Sometimes you are lucky though and they are arbitrated and you may find a mod, or admin making sure everything is running smoothly (this happens very rarily though.)
I tend to prefer ORR's to UCRR's, but as the game gets older, or if you want some variants then UCRR's are perfect. Especially for clan battles, or clan matches, grouping, whatever really. That is part of the fun though. |

I'm confussed by that statement? Do you refer to or mean to say the few jerks you may run into when going into a UCRR? |

Yeah. It happens. Happens in Battlefield3, Warhawk, Starhawk, SOCOM. This happens. Anonymity only seem to encourage some people, and others are just dicks. I've been voted out just for joining into a game never got past the load screen. It happens. It's pathetic, but yeah... Not everyone is like that though. |

Really you did not read, or take the time to be remotely rational did you?
Stop flipping out. Especially since you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. You even said yourself -- "What the hell are you people talking about?" -- so please just stop, think, re-read, and maybe read again. Sheesh. Some people just seem to over react. Do you ever play video games? Obviously you must have some experience to draw from. I have nearly twenty years. I've seen a lot, and plan on seeing a lot more.

... You obviously have no idea what we are suggesting. It's very helpful to the game, and considering at the end of the day you are going to be playing on "servers" whether or not UCRR or ORR you will need some basis of information. Whether this means -- PvP, PvE -- makes no difference. You could be exploring, salvaging, or fighting a battle. Knowing what and which servers are doing are essentials. This has nothing to do with a game being an MMO infact. You would not take a job without a contract right? Same applies here. I'm not walking into something without knowing what I am going to be getting into.
Seriously? What games have you played? Call of Duty? This is not the quick join leagues, or match making whims of sparkles. Even most MMO games have server information.
This is basic stuff really. |

I dunno. The way you mention score, rank, user-created rooms, etc makes it seem very CoD-ish. For PvE and maybe meaningless highsec battles, sure, you should definitely pick a server that you'll have less latency in. Save some stats on a KB of some sort? Sure. Separate people by their SP in those meaningless highsec matches? No harm, no foul. But in nullsec, none of that applies if DUST is going to tie into sov. If a planet needs to be taken/defended, then I have no power over the location of the server or the SP of the guys I'm playing against. Do you see what I mean now?
... I'm going to facepalm this posting, and move on. My advice to you? Play some games. There is an obvious notion you lack information. Especially when you made the whole Call of Duty comment. Oh yeah.
Seriously though this is all basic stuff, and nothing new. Server selection, and information is pretty common place especially outside the realm of home entertainment consoles. I'll just let someone else afford the effort to break this down for you. I have not the patience today.
As for EVE Online granted it's basically one combined server made up of an entire server farm which essentially holds the entire New Eden galaxy, and it's players. However outside of little old EVE Online other games run different servers to help cut down lag, latency, and other issues. Not just other areas. If you want I'll list games that do just this. Oh wait I have. Even KILLZONE2 had basic information.
Sheesh... |
